How did you get into buying and merchandising?
At school, I really enjoyed textile economics. While I was doing my A-levels, my teacher opened my eyes to various professions in the retail industry. I decided to apply for university courses in retail and ended up studying Fashion and Textile Buying, Management and Retail at the University of Huddersfield. That was the best decision for me, and I thoroughly enjoyed my subsequent jobs in the retail industry. I'm proud to have worked my way up to my current position as Merchandiser/Buyer at Muck Boot.
What are your responsibilities as a Muck Boot Merchandiser/Buyer?
My role at Muck Boots involves numerous different tasks and responsibilities. Simply put, I am responsible for ensuring that we have the right stock at the right time and in the right place. I work with many different people in various areas of the company to achieve the goals we have set ourselves at Muck Boot. This includes sales, marketing, warehousing, logistics, and customer service. I like how diverse my work is.
What do you like best about your role as a Buyer for Muck Boots?
What I like best is seeing the brand's success and growth and knowing that I've contributed to it. It's great to work for a brand that I truly believe in.
In my free time, you can often find me walking my dog in a pair of Muck Boots. I see more and more people wearing Muck boots, and that makes me very happy.
How has the COVID-19 pandemic affected your work?
Like many others, I now work from home instead of the office. After almost a year, it's hard to remember a time before video calls.
Forecasting what stock will be needed for Muck Boots has been a particular challenge. Demand for wellington boots has increased significantly, and this at a time when our delivery times for products have become longer. More people want to get outdoors and go for walks or hikes. The demand for wellington boots continues to grow, and predicting whether this trend will continue is a topic that my colleagues and I frequently discuss.
Which Muck Boot is your favourite?
My favourite wellington boot is the Arctic Sport II. I have a pair in navy/spruce. It was the first pair of Muck Boots I bought, and I still wear them. I usually wear them when I walk the dog. They look great. My feet stay warm and dry. And they're comfortable too.
When I don't need tall wellington boots, I wear a pair of Apex with a zip. I love these boots. So much so that my mum and her friend now have a pair too!
Can you tell us more about the new Outscape and Forager styles that have been added for spring?
The Outscape is a particularly versatile shoe. It's ideal if you don't need a waterproof boot, but something lighter. For example, for gardening or a spring walk. The Outscape is 100% waterproof and offers the comfort and performance you expect from a Muck Boot. There are two different designs in the range: a shoe/sneaker silhouette and a mid-height boot. This style is available for men and women in various colours. I like the classic black of the Outscape women's shoes.
The Forager is unique in our range. This boot has an easy-to-fold rubber shaft, which allows it to be worn at different heights. It is lightweight, easy to store, and also has a drawstring closure for a custom fit. The Forager is available in unisex sizes and three colours: black, dark grey, and light brown.
Can we look forward to even more exciting product launches for Autumn/Winter 21?
We have expanded our range, and many new products and exciting new colour variations are coming. A highlight is the new lace-up Apex, for men and women. My next favourite is the new women's Arctic Sport II wellington boot, in olive green. I'm already excited to see how well the new styles sell in their respective seasons.
